Theophilus, or “Theo” as he is called, is not your typical attorney. He is a captivating speaker who draws from his broad experiences in life to motivate, encourage, enlighten, equip, empower, enrich, enhance and inspire people of many ages, stages and diverse backgrounds. Theo’s experiences and contacts span entertainment, politics and business. His desire for learning has turned his “gift of communication” into a passion. Theo speaks to youth and adult groups around the country and has a series on how to create, sustain, transfer, and teach generational wealth which he learned from some of the most successful business and creative people of our generation, including his parents. By sharing his motivating stories, he encourages others to think differently, to discover their inherent greatness and the God-given destiny for their lives despite their circumstances.

Before studying law, he graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in classical music where he studied opera, tap and ballet. In addition, Theo also has a diploma in embalming and funeral directing from Cincinnati, Ohio College of Mortuary Science.

After his undergraduate work, Theo attended and graduated from the legendary Howard University School of Law and was class president. He comes from a prominent legal family. His father, the late Theophilus R. Nix, Sr., was the second African-American attorney in the State of Delaware. His cousin, the late Robert N.C. Nix, Jr., was the first African-American elected Chief Justice for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Supreme Court. The late Robert N.C. Nix, Sr. was the first and longest serving African-American Congressman from Pennsylvania, and Theo’s sister, American Ambassador to UNESCO,  Attorney Crystal Nix-Hines, is a Harvard Law School graduate, and was the co-editor of the Harvard Law Journal with President Barack Obama. She was also the law clerk of the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall and former Associate Supreme Court Justice, Sandra Day O’Connor. Theo’s cousin, Dr. John Silvanus Wilson, is President and CEO of Morehouse College.

Theo's father, Theophilus R. Nix, Sr., was a civil rights icon as the second African-American attorney to practice law in Delaware.

Theo has practiced law, and specifically construction law, in both the private and corporate sectors. He has worked for two international companies. In addition, Theo worked as an intern in Congress and is an entrepreneur who has started many businesses including: a construction company, his own civil litigation law firm, and business/legal consulting companies. He has also been a construction arbitrator, owner of a family funeral home, held elective office and was a political fund-raiser on the national and local stage.

He has held Board positions with the Delaware Contractors Association, the Philadelphia Minority Contractors Association, Sea Palace Association located in St. Maarten, and the Delaware YMCA to name a few. Theo also received numerous awards for public service.

Currently, Theo is corporate counsel for DuPont, a Fortune 100 international company, and is responsible for construction and design contracts for a multi-billion dollar international department where he drafts and negotiates multi-million dollar international and national contracts.

He is a dedicated husband, father, eldest sibling, son, and mentor and champion to many youth and young adults around the country.

Theo resides in Wilmington, Delaware with his devoted wife, Suzanne. They have four adult children between the two of them, along with eight grandchildren.
